PROMOTING RESPONSIBLE BREEDING, PET OWNERSHIP AND STANDARDS IN CANINE CARE

MEDIA RELEASE

4th June  2008

England and Scotland Dog Owners mentioned for nomination in MDBA 2007 Dog Owners’ Choice Awards

The “Master Dog Breeders & Associates “has received a nomination from a local English Breeder for the  2007 Dog Owners’ Choice Awards”, in the category of “Puppy Buyer of the Year”.  Joanna Ratcliffe and Adam Woolner, from Burghead, Scotland have been nominated for their commitment to responsible dog ownership by their breeder Jo Barton from Merseyside England.

The “MDBA 2007 Dog Owners’ Choice Awards” are an initiative of the Master Dog Breeders and Associates which was established in 2004.  The MDBA aims to support, educate and advocate for breeders of purebred dogs, with its main focus on the people who are involved with dogs, rather than the dogs.

Whilst the MDBA was primarily established to support, educate and advocate for purebred breeders, it also promotes public awareness of pure breed dog breeders, the dogs they breed and responsible dog ownership and care.

“We believe that part of being a responsible dog owner is choosing a predictable, registered pure breed of dog which suits an individual family’s lifestyle,” said Julie Nelson, member of the MDBA Board of Directors.

“The MDBA Dog Owners’ Choice Awards are designed to give dog owners the opportunity to nominate, recognise and honour excellence in all areas associated with dog ownership.

“They provide an opportunity for those involved in any activity or service with dogs to be acknowledged for their achievements and commitment to canine well-being.

“They are about standards of service and ethics, but most importantly, what makes these awards unique is that the focus is on the people and what they do, and not on the achievements of the dogs,” Julie said.

Joanna and Adam are a young couple who have bought their first dog from Jo Barton. They travelled all the way from the north of Scotland to see the puppy (over 6 hours drive even before their car broke down) to meet the breeder and pick up their new Miniature schnauzer which they have named Ana. Jo says ‘I have  been bombarded with lots of questions from them since (which I am very happy about) and Ana at 4 1/2 months old passed our KC bronze good citizen test - which shows just how well they have done already with her training. I couldn't ask for a better owner, they have proven their dedication to Ana and have asked me to reserve a puppy for them next year, when Ana is 1 year old.

Julie said “When we send a new puppy home we want to know it’s going to be loved, trained to have good manners, be well-fed, well-housed and kept safe and secure without upsetting the humans with whom it comes into contact or lives near.

“We also want to know, if they go home as pets that our puppies won’t be used for producing unwanted or unregistered litters.” said Julie ‘Its good to be able to give people who are doing  it all right a bit of a clap and focus on the positive for while”

“Joanna and Adam have proven beyond a doubt that they have taken the responsibility of dog ownership in a most serious manner.”

With forty different categories ranging from “Master Breeder of the Year” and “Rescuer of the Year” to “Most Supportive Pet Owner Vet of the Year” and “Best Dog Supply Retail Outlet” there are plenty of opportunities for the public to become involved in the awards program. We welcome entries in many of these categories from all countries and we have a growing number of international members and students.

“Most nominations come via puppy or dog buyers, customers or clients and peers,” Julie said.

“We invite the community to give some thought to nominating those pet services they believe to be worthy of recognition, and help us to promote responsible breeding, pet ownership and standards in canine care.

“This is a great way to show appreciation to those demonstrating excellence in service and practice in all things canine.”

2007 Award winners will be announced in Brisbane Australia on 26th of June and the 2008 awards are now open for nominations.

On this page you will see the events that have made Beanara and the earlier Hesketh schnauzers make it into the local newspapers.

Where it all began......

Dengarse Special Edition at an Agricultural Show, behind her is Saleima Tuneful Melody

And then Lottie did this! After winning a VHC at Crufts, back when it was held at Earls Court. You can see some of her other rosettes collected along the way.

Her daughter Beana (Hesketh Page Three) helps me on a sponsored walk. We were also on local TV when I organised this walk! The photographer wanted me to be dragged off down the beach but Beana never pulled on the lead, so we went with this pose, I'm not smiling - I'm saying STAY while I pretend to be pulling her!

Then Tara joins the gang and qualifies for Crufts for the 1st of many times

At Crufts Tara wins. This was a big class and we even had to do a run off for 1st place! Thanks to the judge M. Everton for the win.

Even today Tara is still newsworthy! At 7 years old she appears in Andrew Braces column in Dog World newspaper. Best Veteran in Show at the SCGB championship show (for all 3 sizes of schnauzer)
